A Brazilian martial art that disguises itself as dance. Capoeira is very beneficial for youth as it teaches the importance of discipline, respect, honor, self defense, and the value of friendship. It also helps to develop musicality by incorporating singing, clapping, drumming, and playing various musical instruments. Participants will work on movements such as handstands, cartwheels, rolls, headstands, jumps, back bridges, kicks, tricks, and musical activities. Because it is mostly non-contact, students feel safe while executing proper techniques and improving coordination, flexibility, and athleticism – all while having fun. In 2002, Professor Sua aka Vlad started Capoeira in Israel; teaching it since immigrating to Calgary in 2007.
