If you are looking to become a lifeguard or swim instructor, Calgary JCC is the place for you! The JCC can run the entire certification course for individuals who are working towards their lifesaver goals. We run one bronze class on a seasonal basis and if enough interest if shown we can offer the national lifeguard or lifesaving swim instructor certification courses.
Develops swimming proficiency, lifesaving skill, and personal fitness. Participants refine their stroke mechanics, acquire self-rescue skills, and apply fitness principles in training workouts. Bronze Star is excellent preparation for success in Bronze Medallion and provides a fun introduction to lifesaving sport.
Challenges participants both mentally and physically. Judgment, knowledge, skill, and fitness – the four components of water rescue – form the basis of Bronze Medallion training. Participants acquire the assessment and problem-solving skills needed to make good decisions in, on, and around the water. Bronze Medallion is a prerequisite for assistant lifeguard training in Bronze Cross.
Designed for participants who want the challenge of more advanced training including an introduction to safe supervision in aquatic facilities. Bronze Cross is a prerequisite for all advanced training programs including National Lifeguard and Instructor certification. Includes a timed 600m swim.
Recognized as the standard for lifeguards in Canada, NL training develops a sound understanding of lifeguarding principles, good judgment, and mature and responsible attitude toward the role of lifeguarding. This six-day program develops basic skills, principles, and decision-making processes to help lifeguards evaluate and adapt to different aquatics facilities and emergencies.
This recertification class allows for lifeguards to be evaluated and demonstrate their skills to ensure they are meeting the Lifesaving Society standards and will be able to provide proper rescue techniques in emergency situations.
Swim instructors are responsible for teaching and evaluating candidates participating in the Swim for Life® and Canadian Swim Patrol programs. This course prepares instructors to apply Level 1 leadership competencies and strategies designed to teach swimming and lifesaving, water rescue education, and are responsible for teaching and evaluating candidates participating in the Canadian Swim Patrol, Bronze Medals, Distinction, Boat Rescue and Lifesaving Society CPR programs.
